THE ROLE
We are seeking for individuals who highly self-motivated to accelerate the development of our autonomous vehicle testing. The Autopilot Test Engineer will test Tesla's Autopilot features within regulatory compliance, to help advance Tesla's autonomous driving technology.
This role requires a highly organized, objective, and confident individual with flexible project scheduling and the ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed. The full-time position involves vehicle testing at closed test tracks and on public roads.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external agencies to develop and validate Autopilot performance.
• Track changes in regulations and certifications for autonomous driving assistance systems in China. Maintain and update the status of the test matrix. Evaluate each test scenario in new regulations with good documentation management.
• Conduct Functional Safety and Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) tests related to Autopilot.
• Perform the installation of test equipment. Execute the tests for Autopilot active safety features, including AEB, FCW, BSD, and various operating conditions.
• Support tests of newly developed Tesla autonomous driving features in China, including road testing.
• Analyze and report test results after test execution, determine compliance with regulations or internal requirements. Provide recommendations to internal development teams based on findings from the test result.
• Troubleshoot daily issues during testing, promptly identify and resolve hardware/software-related problems.
• Classify, analyze, and track autonomous driving performance, identify issues, and collaborate with local service teams or software QA teams to resolve or escalate problems.
• Maintain and document test vehicle conditions, coordinate repairs/modifications as needed.
• Support any additional engineering vehicle testing as required.
REQUIREMENTS
MUST
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of experience related to ADAS testing. Possess testing expertise in one or more areas: ADAS active safety feature testing, functional safety testing, or Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) testing.
• Proficient in field testing equipment, including instrumentation and software such as RT series, ABD robots, LaunchPad, etc., to execute the above tests.
• Familiar with regulations and evaluations for autonomous driving assistance features, including test scenario definitions, execution procedures, and evaluation criteria.
• Experience on troubleshooting software and hardware issues during field testing.
• Clean driving record with a valid C1 (or higher) driver’s license and safe driving habits.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Must be capable of driving engineering vehicles that may lack safety features or pose safety risks during testing.
• Strong communication skills.
PREFERRED
• Proficient in C/C++, MATLAB, or Python (Python preferred).
