The CMF Studio Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative color, material, and finish (CMF) solutions for Exterior & Interior. This role involves collaborating with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure materials meet aesthetic, functional, and sustainability goals. The ideal candidate (was expected with a strong background in material science, color theory, and manufacturing processes.
What you'll do
Material Development & Innovation:
Research and develop new materials, finishes, and color applications.
Experiment with sustainable and alternative materials (e.g., recycled, bio-based).
Test material properties (durability, texture, reflectance, etc.) for Exterior & Interior applications.
Color Matching & Formulation:
Create and refine color palettes based on brand and market trends.
Use spectrophotometers and digital tools for precise color matching.
Collaborate with suppliers to ensure consistency in production.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work with CMF designers, engineers, and suppliers to integrate CMF into product designs.
Color material definition delivery for projects.
Support prototyping and production teams in material selection and application.
Ensure materials meet cost, performance, and regulatory requirements.
Support for the model and prototype work.
Trend Analysis & Market Research:
Monitor industry trends in CMF (consumer electronics, automotive, fashion, etc.).
Conduct competitor analysis and present insights into design teams.
Documentation & Process Improvement:
Maintain material libraries and technical documentation.
Optimize CMF workflows for efficiency and sustainability.
What you'll bring
Bachelor’s/Master’s in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, textiles, polymers, or surface engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
4+ years in CMF development (automotive, consumer electronics, fashion, or manufacturing).
Hands-on experience with material testing.
Proficiency in color-matching tools (Pantone, X-Rite, spectrophotometers).
Knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection molding, painting, anodizing, etc.).
Familiarity with CATIA, ALIAS, or VRED rendering software (a plus).
Strong creativity and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication for cross-team collaboration.
Attention to detail and passion for aesthetics + functionality.
Experience with sustainable material development.
Knowledge of regulatory standards (REACH, RoHS).
